This guide walks you through installing InkSpire and explains what to expect the first time you run it.
Installing InkSpire
InkSpire is installed using a standard Windows installer.
- Download the InkSpire installer from the Download InkSpire page
- Double-click the installer to begin setup
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete installation
During installation, Windows may display a security warning. This is expected if the installer is not digitally signed. See Download InkSpire for details on why this occurs and how to proceed safely.
Once installation is complete, InkSpire will be available from the Start Menu and, if selected, as a desktop shortcut.
Launching InkSpire for the First Time
When you launch InkSpire for the first time, the application will:
- Create its local data files
- Load default preferences
- Open to the main editor interface
No account, login, or internet connection is required.
If this is your first launch, InkSpire will not contain any projects yet.
What Gets Created on First Launch
InkSpire stores all of its data locally on your computer.
On first launch, InkSpire creates:
- A local database file to store projects, chapters, and scenes
- A preferences file for theme, fonts, and interface options
These files are managed automatically. You do not need to create or edit them manually.
What You Will See
After launch, you will see:
- The main writing editor
- Empty project and scene selectors
- Toolbar controls for creating your first project
This is normal. InkSpire is ready for you to create your first project.
If InkSpire Does Not Launch
If InkSpire does not start or closes immediately:
- Try launching it again
- Make sure the installation completed successfully
- Check Troubleshooting for common startup issues
In most cases, a reinstall resolves first-launch problems.
