InkSpire organizes your writing into chapters and scenes. Understanding how these work together is key to using the application effectively.
Chapters and Scenes Explained
In InkSpire:
- Chapters group related scenes
- Scenes contain the actual written content
Chapters do not contain text directly. All writing happens inside scenes.

To create a new chapter:
- Select a project
- Choose New Chapter from the menu
- Enter a chapter title when prompted
- Click OK to create the chapter
The chapter will appear in the chapter selector.
Creating a Scene
Scenes are created inside chapters.
To create a new scene:
- Select a chapter
- Choose New Scene from the menu
- Enter a scene title when prompted
- Click OK
The scene does not open automatically in the editor. You will have to choose it in the drop down
Scene Titles vs Scene Content
- The scene title identifies the scene in the scene list
- The scene content is the text you write in the editor
Scene titles are used for navigation and organization. They are separate from any headings you may add inside the editor.
Switching Between Chapters and Scenes
- Selecting a different chapter updates the scene list
- Selecting a different scene loads its content into the editor
InkSpire saves your work automatically on a schedule. If you switch off of the current scene/chapter/project before it auto-saves, you will be prompted if you want to save.
Reordering Scenes
Scenes can be reordered within a chapter.
- Scene order controls the reading order of your work
- Reordering scenes does not change their content
This allows you to experiment with structure as your story evolves.
Moving Scenes
Scenes can also be moved to another chapter.
- If you decide a scene works better in another chapter you can move it to that chapter
- Moving scenes does not change their content
Deleting Scenes
Scenes can be deleted when no longer needed.
- Deleting a scene removes its content permanently
- This action cannot be undone
If you may need the content later, consider exporting or copying it before deletion.
Deleting Chapters
Chapters can also be deleted.
- Deleting a chapter removes all scenes within it
- This action cannot be undone
Use this carefully if you are restructuring your project.
Viewing Your Work
InkSpire offers multiple ways to review your writing:
- Scene View – focus on one scene
- View All Scenes – see all scenes in a chapter
- View Entire Book – read the full manuscript
Each view is suited to a different stage of writing or revision.
