This guide introduces the main parts of the InkSpire interface and explains how they fit together. You do not need to understand everything at once—this is simply an overview to help you get oriented.
The Main Editor
The center of the InkSpire window is the writing editor.
This is where you:
- Write and edit scene content
- Apply basic formatting
- Review text while revising
The editor updates automatically when you switch between scenes or change views.
Project Selector
The project selector allows you to choose which writing project you are working on.
- Each project represents a separate book or major work
- Changing projects updates the available chapters and scenes
If no project is selected, the editor will remain empty.
Chapter Selector
The chapter selector shows all chapters within the selected project.
- Chapters group related scenes
- Selecting a chapter updates the scene list
- Chapters can be added or removed as needed
Scene Selector
The scene selector displays all scenes in the current chapter.
- Each scene is a single writing unit
- Selecting a scene loads its content into the editor
- Scenes can be reordered or deleted later
This is where you will switch between different parts of your manuscript most often.
Toolbar
The toolbar provides quick access to common actions.
Typical toolbar actions include:
- Creating new projects, chapters, and scenes
- Formatting text
- Switching view modes
- Exporting your work
The exact buttons may change as features are added, but the toolbar always contains frequently used actions.
Panels (Writer’s Block)
InkSpire includes optional panels to support planning and organization.
Depending on your setup, you may see panels such as:
- World Panel – setting and background notes
- Research Panel – reference material
- Characters Panel – character details
- Scene Goal / Conflict / Outcome – scene planning fields
These panels are optional and designed to support your workflow without forcing a specific process.
View Modes
InkSpire offers multiple ways to view your writing.
- Scene View – write and edit one scene at a time
- View All Scenes – review all scenes within a chapter
- View Entire Book – read your full manuscript in one continuous view
Each view is suited to a different stage of writing or revision.
Status Information
InkSpire displays helpful information as you work, including:
- Word and character counts
- Current project, chapter, and scene context
This information updates automatically.
