1. What is InkSpire?
InkSpire is a focused, offline writing tool for authors who prefer to organize their work into projects, chapters, and scenes. It provides a distraction-free writing experience with tools for structuring your work, viewing your manuscript, and exporting it when ready.
2. Is InkSpire free?
Yes, InkSpire is free to download and use. We plan to offer future paid features, but the core functionality remains free.
3. Can I sync my work across devices?
InkSpire currently does not support cloud syncing. All data is stored locally on your computer. We recommend creating manual backups if you need to transfer your work to another device.
4. Where does InkSpire save my projects?
InkSpire saves all projects in the installation directory by default. You can back up your data by manually copying the project file (inkspire.db), preferences (preferences.json), and manifest (manifest.txt).
5. Can I change where InkSpire saves my work?
No, InkSpire saves your projects to its install directory. However, you can manually back up and move your project files as needed.
6. How do I back up my work?
To back up your work, create a backup of the following files:

You can manually copy these files to a different location or use cloud storage.
7. How do I restore a backup?
InkSpire does not include an automatic restore feature. To restore from a backup, simply replace the existing inkspire.db, preferences.json, and manifest.txt files in the install directory with the backed-up versions.
8. Can I export my work to other formats?
Yes, InkSpire supports exporting your work to:
- DOCX (for editing in Word or similar apps)
- PDF (for printing or sharing)
- HTML (for web publishing)
- TXT (plain text)
Each format may have slightly different formatting behavior.
9. How can I customize the interface (theme, fonts, etc.)?
InkSpire offers basic customization through the Appearance & Preferences settings. You can switch between Dark Mode and Light Mode, adjust font sizes, and control what happens on startup.
10. Can I use InkSpire on macOS or Linux?
Currently, InkSpire is only available for Windows. We may explore macOS and Linux versions in the future.
